2004 News Archive

  • December 2004.  Lisa toured the Oregon State Police's Portland Office and the Portland Crime Lab as part of the research for her 2006 novel.  The Portland Crime Lab wins hands down for most interesting forensic facility—latent prints had put up a tree decorated with laminated fingerprints and well, fingers.  In response, Ballistics devised one of the most festive display of red and green shotgun shells ever seen.  It was definitely a great experience and Lisa would like to thank the men and women of the OSP and the Crime Lab for so generously sharing their time and expertise.
  • 20 November 2004. THE KILLING HOUR recently ended it's reign on the New York Times list. With the help of her fans, THE KILLING HOUR was on the list for 4 consecutive weeks... no small feat given the competitiveness of the List during that month. Lisa thanks her fans for their support.
  • 12 May 2004. The Saga Continues! After months of being Book Seven, then The Devil Inside, Lisa's latest novel has once again suffered an identity crisis. It's now being titled, ALONE, which her publisher has promised to leave alone, or suffer dire consequences. On sale date is January 11, 2005. Now it's off to find a cover.

  • 1 April 2004. Lisa Gardner is the spotlighted author on Margie Lawson's website. Margie shares some selected excerpts that portray nonverbal communication that carries an emotional punch.
  • 7 March 2004, 9 p.m. THE SURVIVORS CLUB aired on CBS, starring Roma Downey as Jillian Hayes, Jacqueline Bisset as Carol Rosen and Lauren Lee Smith as Meg Pesaturo.

    Lisa's thoughts:

"Overall, I had fun watching the movie. It was much closer to the novel than I thought it would be, though details were often sliced and diced in a different way. For example, in the beginning of the movie is a section of dialogue I'd written, but it was spoken by different characters than I'd used in the book. David Price still existed, but his crime had changed, etc.
The women of the Survivors Club were very much as I'd pictured them. I give two thumbs ups to Roma Downey, Jacqueline Bisset and Lauren Lee Smith (though Bisset and Smith essentially disappear after the first hour, which is a shame). Also, Brian Markinson was outstanding as a very creepy David Price. My biggest disappointment was probably James Remar's portrayal of Roan Griffin. I pictured Griffin as much more of a physical presence, say Russell Crowe. In contract, I found James Remar's portrayal to be flat and frankly, uninteresting. I also thought the ending disintegrated into a very clichéd TV moment, not representative of the novel at all. (Personally, I was shouting, "Shoot him, shoot him," which I guess just goes to show that I'm a lot more bloodthirsty than TV.) But the movie was fun to watch and I hope entertaining for people whether they read the novel or not."
  • 24 February 2004 THE SURVIVORS CLUB movie, starring Roma Downey and Jacqueline Bisset will air on Sunday, March 7, 2004 at 9:00 EST on CBS.
