This sweepstakes begins on or about April 1, 2024 at 12:01am PDT and ends on October 1, 2024 at 11:59pm PDT.
There is a limit of one (1) entry per person. If more than one (1) entry is submitted by the same person, all entries may be disqualified. Use of multiple email addresses by the same entrant is prohibited. By entering the Sweepstakes, the entrant agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Purple Papaya LLC (the “Administrator”) and Lisa Gardner, Inc. (the “Sponsor”) which are final and binding.
ELIGIBILITY: The Sweepstakes is open to anyone who is 18 years of age at date of entry. Void where prohibited by law. The following individuals are not eligible to participate in the Sweepstakes: employees and immediate family members of the Sponsors or Administrator, affiliates, and subsidiaries, and all agencies, entities and persons engaged in the marketing and/or administration of this Sweepstakes. For the purpose of these Official Rules, “immediate family” means husband, wife, spouse, mother, father, brother, sister, son and/or daughter, whether or not they reside in the same household. Entries shall be deemed to be submitted by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address associated with the entry (i.e., the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet service provider, online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address). Potential winners may be required to provide the Sponsor with proof that the potential winner is the authorized account holder of the e-mail address associated with the winning entry.
AGREEMENT TO RULES: By participating, you agree to be fully unconditionally bound by these Rules, and you represent and warrant that you meet the eligibility requirements set forth herein. In addition, you agree to accept the decisions of Purple Papaya, LLC, as final and binding as it relates to the content. The Sweepstakes is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws.
SWEEPSTAKES PERIOD: This sweepstakes begins on or about April 1, 2024 at 12:01am PDT and ends on October 1, 2024 at 11:59pm PDT. All entries must be received by October 1, 2024 at 11:59pm ET.
HOW TO ENTER: Nominate an “Unwitting Victim” and enter your name and email address to complete the entry. You may nominate yourself as the “Unwitting Victim.” Entries that are not complete or do not adhere to the rules or specifications may be disqualified at the sole discretion of Purple Papaya, LLC. You may enter only once and you must fill in the information requested. You may not enter more times than indicated by using multiple email addresses, identities or devices in an attempt to circumvent the rules. If you use fraudulent methods or otherwise attempt to circumvent the rules your submission may be removed from eligibility at the sole discretion of Purple Papaya, LLC. Note: Unwitting victims may be nominated by multiple people, but each nomination must come from a different sweepstakes entrant. A sweepstakes entrant may only nominate ONE “Unwitting Victim” for the duration of the sweepstakes.
PRIZE: There is only one prize. The “Unwitting Victim” will have a character named after them in Lisa Gardner’s next novel.
WINNER SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION: On or about five (5) business days of the conclusion of the sweepstakes, the potential winner will be selected by a random draw from among all eligible entries received. The potential winners will be notified by e-mail and must respond within three (3) days of notification. If the potential winner cannot be contacted or do not respond in a timely manner, the prize will be forfeited without compensation of any kind. The potential winner may be required at the Sponsor’s sole discretion to sign and return (within ten (10) business days of notification) an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release that confirms the potential winner’s: (i) eligibility for the Sweepstakes and compliance with these Official Rules; (ii) acceptance of the Prize as offered; (iii) release of the Releasees (as defined below) from any and all liability for any loss, harm, damages, cost or expense arising out of participation in this Sweepstakes, participation in any Sweepstakes-related activity or the acceptance, use, or misuse of the Prize, including but not limited to costs, injuries, losses related to personal injuries, death, damage to, loss or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation, or portrayal in a false light, or from any and all claims of third parties arising there from; and (iv) consent to Sponsor’s use of his/her name, photograph, likeness, and biographical material in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, for purposes of advertising and publicity relating to the Sweepstakes, without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.
RIGHTS GRANTED BY YOU: By entering this content you understand that Purple Papaya, LLC or Lisa Gardner, Inc., anyone acting on behalf of Purple Papaya, LLC or Lisa Gardner Inc., or its respective licensees, successors and assigns will have the right, where permitted by law, without any further notice, review or consent to print, publish, broadcast, distribute, and use, worldwide in any media now known or hereafter in perpetuity and throughout the World, your entry, including, without limitation, the entry and winner’s name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, image or statements about the Sweepstakes, and biographical information as news, publicity or information and for trade, advertising, public relations and promotional purposes without any further compensation.
TERMS: Purple Papaya, LLC reserves the right, in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Sweepstakes should (in its sole discretion) a virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or other causes beyond its control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Sweepstakes. In such case, Purple Papaya, LLC may select the winner from all eligible entries received prior to and/or after (if appropriate) the action taken by Purple Papaya, LLC.
Purple Papaya, LLC reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Sweepstakes or website or violates these Terms & Conditions.
Purple Papaya, LLC has the right, in its sole discretion, to maintain the integrity of the Sweepstakes, to void entries for any reason, including, but not limited to; multiple entries from the same user from different IP addresses; multiple entries from the same computer in excess of that allowed by sweepstakes rules; or the use of bots, macros or scripts or other technical means for entering.
Any attempt by an entrant to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the sweepstakes may be a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, [company name] reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law.

CONDITIONS: The Sponsor is not responsible for printing, clerical or typographical errors of any kind or nature relating to entries. In no event will the Sponsor be obligated to award more than the stated number of prizes. Each entrant agrees that the Sponsors shall not be liable for damages, injuries or losses of any kind resulting in whole or in part from participation in the Sweepstakes, or from acceptance and/or use or misuse of the Prize. The Sponsor assumes no liability for lost, late, incomplete, inaccurate, undeliverable or misdirected entries, notifications and/or responses, or for any computer, online, software, hardware or technical malfunctions that may occur, including but not limited to malfunctions that may affect the transmission or non-transmission of an entry. The Sponsor is not responsible for damage to any participant’s computer system/software related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in connection with this Sweepstakes. The Sponsor assumes no responsibility or liability in the event that the Sweepstakes cannot be conducted as planned for any reason whatsoever, including but not limited to reasons beyond the control of the Sponsor, such as infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes outside the control of the Sponsor which impair or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Sweepstakes. The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Sweepstakes. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS SWEEPSTAKES MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND/OR CIVIL LAWS. SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, THE SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. The Sponsor assumes no responsibility for undeliverable e-mails resulting from any form of active or passive e-mail filtering by a participant’s Internet service provider and/or e-mail client or for insufficient space in participant’s e-mail account to receive e-mail. Sweepstakes is void, in whole or part, where prohibited by law and is subject to all applicable laws and regulations.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: By entering you agree to release and hold harmless Purple Papaya, LLC, Lisa Gardner, Inc., and their subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, partners, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers and directors from any liability, illness, injury, death, loss, litigation, claim or damage that may occur, directly or indirectly, whether caused by negligence or not, from (i) such entrant’s participation in the sweepstakes and/or his/her acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize or any portion thereof, (ii) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunctioning of any computer, cable, network, hardware or software; (iii) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any transmissions or telephone or Internet service; (iv) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Promotion; (v) electronic or human error which may occur in the administration of the Promotion or the processing of entries.
RELEASE AND INDEMNITY: By participating in the Sweepstakes, the entrant hereby releases and discharges the Sponsor, and each of their respective employees, directors, officers, suppliers, agents and administrators, (collectively, the “Releasees”), from and against any and all claims, actions, liabilities, judgments, damages, penalties, and expenses of any kind (including legal fees) in any way arising in relation to the entrant’s participation in the Sweepstakes or any Prize-related activity, or the acceptance, receipt, use or misuse of any Prize.
Furthermore, by participating in the Sweepstakes, the entrant hereby agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Sponsor, and affiliated entities, and each of their respective employees, directors, officers, suppliers, agents and administrators (collectively, the “Indemnitees”), from and against any and all claims, actions, liabilities, judgments, damages, penalties, and expenses of any kind (including legal fees) in any way arising in relation to the entrant’s participation in the Sweepstakes or any Prize-related activity, or the acceptance, receipt, use or misuse of any Prize.
DISPUTES: THIS SWEEPSTAKES IS GOVERNED BY THE LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES AND CALIFORNIA, WITHOUT RESPECT TO CONFLICT OF LAW DOCTRINES. As a condition of participating in this Sweepstakes, participant agrees that any and all disputes which cannot be resolved between the parties, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Sweepstakes, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively before a court located in California having jurisdiction. Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances will participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental, or consequential damages, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, other than participant’s actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e. costs associated with entering this Sweepstakes), and participant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.
PRIVACY AND USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION: By participating in the Sweepstakes, each entrant consents to the Sponsor’s collection and use of the entrant’s name, mailing address and e-mail address (“Personal Information”) for the purpose of administering the Sweepstakes (including but not limited to contacting and announcing the winner) and for publicity and promotional purposes relating to the Sweepstakes, in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, without further compensation unless prohibited by law. The Sponsor will use the entrant’s Personal Information only for identified purposes.
TERMINATION: Subject to any governmental approval which may be required, the Sponsor reserves the right to terminate or suspend the Sweepstakes, in whole or in part, and/or amend the Official Rules in any way, at any time, for any reason, without prior notice. In the event that the Sweepstakes is terminated or suspended, the Sponsor will select winners from all eligible, non-suspect entries received prior to such action. In the event that the Official Rules are amended, all entries received prior to such action which were eligible according to the original Official Rules will be deemed eligible.
WINNER’S LIST: The official winners will be announced in the next Lisa Gardner novel.
